- On November 18, 1869 Nicolaus and his wife bought the eighty-five acre farm along the Gasconade-Morrison road from his father and mother Joseph and Catherine, and Peter and Catherine Gerard for one hundred dollars. On April 22, 1871 Nicolaus and Lena sold this farm to his younger sister Elisabeth and her husband Jacob Henneberger for one hundred dollars, with the agreement that their parents, Joseph and Catherine Kuebler, have the right to occupy one-half of the dwelling now on the premises, and that Elisabeth and Jacob give to them, during their lifetime, one-third part of all the produce raised on the land.
After selling the farm, Nicolaus and Lena moved to Hermann, where they bought property on West Fourth Street. This property was sold May 29, 1926 to F.J. and Mary Hunne, for fifteen hundred dollars - five hundred dollars down, with the one thousand dollars to be paid in one year with 5% interest.
The later days of Nicolaus and Lena were spent at Lot three on Market Street in the City of Hermann, MO. After their deaths, this property was sold and divided among his heirs.
After the death of Lena, Nicolaus at the age of eighty-six and being in poor health, both physically and mentally, appointed John, his oldest son, guardian and curator of his estate.
In the distribution of his estate, some interesting facts found about various payments were: $560 was paid to Mary Kuebler for board and care of Nicolaus from August 1, 1927 to August 1, 1928 at the rate of $30 per month, and from August 1, 1928 until his death at the rate of $50 per month; $15 was paid to Nick Kuebler for the burial lot in Assumption Cemetery; and $250 for the cost of the marker.
